How to Remove Wine Stains from Carpet

If the spill is large, have your customer leave moist weighted towel on spill overnight before attempting removal. This will greatly improve the likelihood of removal.

If the wine spill is extremely heavy:

  1. Use the Water Claw® Sub-Surface Spot Lifter to more thoroughly flush out the spill.
  2. Heavily sprinkle Stain Blotter Anti-Wicking Absorbent Powder on area to absorb any material that wicks up.
  3. The customer can vacuum up the Stain Blotter the next day.

If some of the wine stain is still visible or is old:

  1. Extraction clean the carpet again.
  2. Use Stain Magic® 2-Part Stain Remover for Organic and Natural Stains by Pro’s Choice.
  3. Of course, if the wine stain is on solution dyed nylon or on 100% olefin, you can apply chlorine bleach diluted 1:5 with water followed by THOROUGH rinsing and dry blotting
  4. To prevent wicking, heavily sprinkle Stain Blotter Anti-Wicking Absorbent Powder on area to absorb any material that wicks up.
  5. The customer can vacuum up the Stain Blotter the next day.

How to Remove Wine Stains from Rugs and Upholstery with Stain Magic for Wool:

How to remove a wine stain.
  1. In a clean beaker, mix equal parts solution “A” & “B”.
  2. Keep out of reach of children.
  3. Read label directions and cautions before using.
  4. Always test on a hidden or inconspicuous area first.
  5. CAUTION: Removal of some of the rug or upholstery dye is always possible in this type of system!
  6. Thoroughly hot water extraction rinse stained area with clear water.
  7. Blot area dry with clean white towel.
  8. Since the colors used to dye wool are often very easily damaged, apply “Part 3 CSS” using an eye dropper to just the colored fibers you wish to protect.
  9. Using an eyedropper, apply mixed Stain Magic for Wool solution to stained fibers only.
  10. Observe the stain and allow up to 15 minutes dwell time for stain to fade away.
  11. As soon as stain has sufficiently faded, proceed to step 12. If stain HAS NOT faded sufficiently within 15 minutes, proceed to the next step.
  12. Cover stain with a damp lightweight terry towel folded in half.
  13. NOTE: This is a risky step! Apply steam heat from steam iron set at lowest steam setting.
  14. Allow ONLY 3 seconds dwell time before you remove heat and check stain. If stain has not faded sufficiently, reapply heat for another 3 seconds. It should not be necessary to repeat this process more than twice.
  15. Thoroughly extraction rinse area.
  16. Saturate area to neutralize the stain remover solution with a dilute “Part 3 CSS” solution (3 parts water to 1 part CSS).
