With the widest range available for a single paper, the kit with its own dispenser provides a direct reading of the pH.
The 0 - 13 pH range shows the result instantly and accurately, with just one dip, making it easy to use and eliminating the guesswork.
The complete unit of 100 test strips comes in a polyethylene case that can be easily carried in a pocket.
Unlike other cheaper pH test paper, these sticks are designed to be non-bleeding, though we still suggest caution.
Use pH paper to check the pH of your cleaning solution and prespray solution to be certain you’re cleaning stain-resist nylon carpet below pH 10 and not busy voiding your customers’ carpets!
Use to check the pH of a unknown stain on your customer’s carpet or rug so that you know what spotting agents to use.
Think about how “professional” your image would be to your customer seeing you checking the pH of your cleaning solutions and carpet stains.
pH = Power of Hydrogen. Simply immerse piece of pH paper in solution to be tested. Remove and compare with specimen colors on dispenser to determine corresponding pH.This pH Indicator Paper shows sharp color changes.
All other things being equal, the higher the pH, the better the cleaning. The lower the pH, the more stable the dye.
All other things being equal, the lower the pH, the more stable the dyes in upholstery and rugs.
The pH scale ranges from 0 to 14. Numbers below 7 are acid, while those greater than 7 are alkaline. The further from 7 (neutral) the more acidic or alkaline the solution. Each whole number difference represents a tenfold change.
Thus, a solution of pH 13 is 1000 times as alkaline as a pH 10 solution. When alkaline materials such as lye or a very high pH detergent mixes with fats, oils, and grease, they form a soap - a process called saponification.
Most detergents are alkaline because (1) most soils are acids and (2) because greasy soils are saponified by alkali.

VIDEO: pH - the Measurement of Alkalinity and Acidity in Cleaning Solutions

Video is an excerpt from a “Chemistry of Cleaning” training school let by Bane-Clene’s chemist. This section of the class covered how pH is the measurement used to determine the relative alkalinity, acidity or neutrality of a solution and how to measure it.

Usage & Tips

pH: The Measurement of Alkalinity and Acidity

pH chart measurement of alkalinity and acidity

“pH” is the chemist’s shorthand for “Potential of Hydrogen” or “Power of Hydrogen”.

There is nothing magical about the term It is the measurement used to determine the relative alkalinity, acidity or neutrality of a solution. Lower pH values correspond to solutions which are more acidic in nature, while higher values correspond to solutions which are more basic or alkaline.

The pH of aqueous solutions can be measured with a glass electrode and a pH meter, with a color-changing indicator or with color-changing pH test paper.

Please note the upper pH limit of 10 for stain-resist nylon carpet. Yet, all other things being equal, the higher the pH, the better the cleaning.

Also, note that there is a 10-fold increase in alkalinity or acidity for each pH unit change. In other words, a solution at a pH of 14 is 10,000,000 times as alkaline as one at a pH of 7.

Note the very low pH of vomit. Because of its low pH, any staining agent in vomit will be MUCH more difficult to remove, because the lower the pH, the more set a dye will be. Just a pleasant thought before dinner!
