Cola spill on carpet

How to Remove Coke®, Cola, Soda Pop, Soft Drink Spots and Spills from Carpet

A soft drink spill is usually deep into the backing and cushion. Wicking with attendant resoiling after a few days is very common.

  1. If possible, have customer absorb the majority of the spill immediately and leave a weighted moist towel on the spill overnight. This will greatly improve the likelihood of removal when you get there.
  2. If extremely heavy, use the Water Claw® Sub-Surface Spot Lifter to more thoroughly flush out the spill.
  3. Blot with a dry white spotting towel and get as dry as possible.
  4. To prevent wicking, heavily sprinkle Stain Blotter Anti-Wicking Absorbent Powder on area to absorb any material that wicks up.
  5. The customer can vacuum up the Stain Blotter the next day.
  6. If the spill covers a large area, treat with ARA Anti-Resoiling / Anti-Wicking Agent after extraction cleaning to keep the stain from coming back.
  7. If carpet is stained and stain persists after this procedure:
    1. If the soda stain is brown or red, treat Red Relief® 2-Part Color Stain Remover or Red 1 Stain Remover.
    2. If the soda stain is yellow, treat with Stain Magic® Stain Remover for Organic and Natural Stains or Stain 1 Stain Remover.
