Pro’s Choice Odor Barrier eliminates pet urine odors from cat and dog pee that has penetrated under carpet by sealing the subfloor and keeping pet urine odors from seeping back up from subfloor.
When left alone, pet pee can seep through carpet, into the backing of the carpet, into the carpet pad (cushion) and even down to the wood or concrete subfloor beneath. Odor Barrier establishes a positive gas vapor barrier to lock cat and dog pet urine odors away, never to be smelled again!

How to Remove Pet Pee Odor Using OSR and Odor Barrier When Urine Smell Comes from the Subfloor:
- Read label directions and cautions before using. Wear rubber gloves when handling urine contaminated pad and carpet.
- We suggest watching the video before beginning since it has much more detail and hands-on illustrations.
- Disengage the urine contaminated carpet and lay it back to fully expose the contaminated subfloor area.
- Cut a new replacement carpet pad to the exact shape you want by laying it over the pet urine contaminated pad and cut through both at the same time.
- Remove the new pad insert and set the new pad aside until you need it later.
- Remove the old urine contaminated pad and get rid of it.
- Remove all dust and debris from the contaminated subfloor to be treated.
- Shake or agitate the Odor Barrier before use.
- Surface to be treated should be clean and completely dry.
- Do NOT apply Odor Barrier to carpet backing or carpet face fibers!
- Liberally apply Odor Barrier to the sub floor, gully area and the tackless strip.
- Use full strength to seal surfaces contaminated by urine.
- Use pump sprayer, brush, lambs wool wax applicator or roller to apply Odor Barrier to surface being treated. You can re-use your applicator by rinsing it promptly after use.
- NOTE: When using a pump sprayer pour Odor Barrier through a paint strainer; then, use promptly. After use, clean up immediately to prevent clogging of sprayer.
- Remember the importance of liberal application around the tackless strip if you are not replacing it.
- Be sure to cover evenly at about 2 ounces per square foot.
- Cover sealed subfloor area and tack strip with 2 mil plastic sheeting.
- Lay contaminated carpet back down in the gully left by the absence of a carpet pad.
- Mix OSR Cat and Dog Urine Odor and Stain Remover by Pro’s Choice with hot water (110 to 120 degrees). If you use higher temperature water, it will make the OSR-XG more reactive and a large amount of foam may be produced. NO DETERGENT!
- Add 1 cup (6.5 ounces) of OSR to the hot water. That’s one full 112 oz. Container into 20 gallons of water.
- Mix until dissolved.
- Pour about 1 gallon of the OSR solution per 4 - 5 square feet of contaminated carpet and squeegee the solution around to saturate all the fibers.
- Allow at least 30 minutes dwell time for the OSR solution to totally destroy the urine in the carpet and carpet backing.
- Extract the solution from the carpet only - dry extract only (vacuum only with no solution) to leave the carpet as dry as possible. Carpet may be stiff once it dries - customer can simply vacuum up the next day.
- Check carpet for urine odor and repeat if needed.
- Pull back the treated carpet (do not remove the plastic sheeting).
- Install the new pad you earlier prepared over the plastic sheeting.
- Trim away the excess plastic that it overlays the original carpet cushion. Tape the new pad into place.
- Reinstall the carpet and stretch into place. Take care when using the knee kicker - carpet backing is weaker when it’s wet.
- Trim the sheeting along the wall, taking care not to cut into the dry-wall or the baseboards.
- Allow carpet to dry (at least 24 hours).
- NOTE: For light to moderate pet urine contamination, only 1 application is needed. For heavy to extreme situations, 2 applications are recommended.
- Do not use on natural fibers, such as sisal, wool or silk.
- Dispose of unused solution - solution loses its strength 15 minutes after mixing.
- Do not place solution in closed container as pressure from released oxygen may cause the container to leak or burst.
- Remember, once dry, the Odor Barrier is no longer water-soluble.
