Excess pressure on one side will cause the housing to bind and crack the casting.\u003c\/li\u003e\n\u003c\/ol\u003e\n\n\u003ch2\u003eReplace the Pump Seal or Bearings\u003c\/h2\u003e\n\u003col\u003e\n  \u003cli\u003eRemove the pump from the machine.\u003c\/li\u003e\n  \u003cli\u003eRemove the screws holding the suction housing (#20500) to the pump body (#20490).\u003c\/li\u003e\n  \u003cli\u003eRemove the suction housing and stator (#20510 \/ #20480).\u003c\/li\u003e\n  \u003cli\u003eRemove the rotor (#20590) from the flexible joint (#20580) by turning counter-clockwise (right-hand thread).\u003c\/li\u003e\n  \u003cli\u003eRemove the flexible joint from the shaft (#20550) using a 3\/16\" Allen wrench in the end of the joint, turning counter-clockwise.\u003c\/li\u003e\n  \u003cli\u003eCarefully slide the mechanical seal (#20570) off the shaft.\u003c\/li\u003e\n  \u003cli\u003eCarefully pry the seal seat out of the pump body.\u003c\/li\u003e\n  \u003cli\u003eReplace the complete seal assembly. Seal components are matched parts and are not interchangeable.\u003c\/li\u003e\n  \u003cli\u003eRemove the snap ring (#20560), then remove the bearing (#20540) and shaft assembly from the pump body.\u003c\/li\u003e\n  \u003cli\u003eTo remove the assembly, lightly tap the shaft at the threaded end using a block of wood to protect the threads.\u003c\/li\u003e\n  \u003cli\u003ePress the bearings off the shaft.\u003c\/li\u003e\n\u003c\/ol\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cstrong\u003eWhen replacing bearings:\u003c\/strong\u003e always press on the inner race when assembling to the shaft, and on the outer race when pressing bearings into the housings.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\n\u003ch2\u003eAssemble the Water Pump\u003c\/h2\u003e\n\u003col\u003e\n  \u003cli\u003ePress the bearings onto the shaft.\u003c\/li\u003e\n  \u003cli\u003ePress the shaft assembly into the pump body and secure it with the snap ring.\u003c\/li\u003e\n  \u003cli\u003eInstall the mechanical seal:\n    \u003cul\u003e\n      \u003cli\u003eClean and lubricate the lapped sealing faces using dishwashing soap.\u003c\/li\u003e\n      \u003cli\u003eLubricate the outer surface of the seal seat and push the assembly into the base in the pump body, seating it firmly and squarely.\u003c\/li\u003e\n      \u003cli\u003eAfter cleaning and lubricating the shaft, slide the seal body along the shaft until it meets the seal seat.\u003c\/li\u003e\n      \u003cli\u003eInstall the spring and spring retainer on the shaft.\u003c\/li\u003e\n    \u003c\/ul\u003e\n  \u003c\/li\u003e\n  \u003cli\u003eThread the flexible joint into the shaft clockwise (right-hand thread).\u003c\/li\u003e\n  \u003cli\u003eThread the rotor onto the flexible joint clockwise (right-hand thread).\u003c\/li\u003e\n  \u003cli\u003eInsert the rounded end of the stator ring (#20520) into the end of the stator before installing it on the rotor.\u003c\/li\u003e\n  \u003cli\u003eSlide the stator onto the rotor.\u003c\/li\u003e\n  \u003cli\u003eSecure the stator and suction housing to the pump body with the suction port vertical, using the screws.\u003c\/li\u003e\n\u003c\/ol\u003e\n\n\u003ch2\u003eRepair a Broken Flex Joint (#20580)\u003c\/h2\u003e\n\u003col\u003e\n  \u003cli\u003eSeparate the two halves of the solution pump housing.\u003c\/li\u003e\n  \u003cli\u003eLeave the base of the pump in the base unit with the drive belt attached.\u003c\/li\u003e\n  \u003cli\u003eSlip a 15 mm six-point socket snugly over the broken half of the flex joint attached to the pump shaft.\u003c\/li\u003e\n  \u003cli\u003eUsing an impact wrench, spin the broken part out of the pump shaft threads (counter-clockwise).\u003c\/li\u003e\n  \u003cli\u003eRemove the stator and auger from the other half of the housing.\u003c\/li\u003e\n  \u003cli\u003eClamp the auger in a padded vise and use the 15 mm socket and impact wrench to remove the other broken half from the auger (counter-clockwise).\u003c\/li\u003e\n\u003c\/ol\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cstrong\u003eNo impact wrench?\u003c\/strong\u003e In the field, use a socket extension or two and strike the ratchet handle sharply with a hammer to back the broken part out of the pump shaft.
