Insecticide on Carpet (DIY)

DIY Do-It-Yourself procedure to Remove Insecticide Stains from Carpets and Rugs

  1. Most insecticides permanently stain bleach or discolor carpet fibers with little chance of restoring the carpet to the original color.
  2. Vacuum thoroughly.
  3. Blot with odorless mineral spirits or alcohol on a white towel.
  4. Do not pour solvents directly on the carpet or you will destroy the latex glue holding the primary and secondary backing together.
  5. Blot with a solution of 1 teaspoon maximum of liquid HAND dish washing detergent per cup of lukewarm water.
  6. Blot with a solution of 2 tablespoons of HOUSEHOLD ammonia per cup of water.
  7. Blot with a solution of 1 cup of WHITE vinegar per 2 cups of water.
  8. Blot with lukewarm water with a white towel.
  9. If unsuccessful:
    • Call the Bane-Clene locator service at 1-800-428-9512 (U.S. ONLY!) for a professional Bane-Clene trained carpet cleaner in your zip code area.
    • Or use our Find a Cleaner function to locate a cleaner in your area.
