Procedure Based on Procter & Gamble’s Instructions for Removing Pepto-Bismol Liquid Stains:
- For carpet stains, please note: If your carpet has a manufacturer’s warranty, you need to contact the manufacturer for its stain removal instructions before you attempt to remove the stain.
- The stain should be treated as promptly as possible.
- The stain should be blotted with a cloth (e.g., a white cotton towel or white paper towel) that has been dipped in warm water (100° F or 38° C).
- Continue blotting until the stain is no longer transferring to the cloth.
- DO NOT RUB STAIN. Rubbing spreads the stain and makes it penetrate deeper into the carpet.
- Any remaining stain should be treated with hydrogen peroxide.
- Pour a small amount of hydrogen peroxide directly on the stain and blot (DO NOT RUB) the area with a clean, white cloth.
- Rinse cloth often in cool water and continue blotting until no further stain can be removed.
- Blot dry with a dry cloth (club soda may be used instead of hydrogen peroxide).
- NOTE: Hydrogen peroxide or club soda should be tested in an inconspicuous area of the carpet to be sure the dyes are colorfast.
If the above fails, a more aggressive procedure can be attempted based on the Bane-Clene professional spotting guide:
- Absorb and scrape up the spilled Pepto-Bismol.
- Blot with alcohol
- Blot with Citrus APS™ Spotter with agitation.
- Thoroughly extraction clean or rinse the area.
- If old, it probably won’t completely come out.
- Pepto-Bismol contains Red Dye 22 and Red Dye 28. These dyes are more easily removed by Stain Magic® than by Red Relief®.
- To prevent wicking, cover the area with a folded, white towel to absorb any material that wicks up.
- Allow to completely dry.
If these spotting methods are unsuccessful:
