Follow these steps for using OSR to eliminate dog and cat urine odor and stains from carpet:
- Disengage the urine contaminated carpet and lay it back to fully expose the contaminated area.
- Cut the replacement pad to the exact shape you want by laying it over the pet urine contaminated pad and cut through both at the same time.
- Remove the new pad insert and the plastic sheet and set the new pad aside until you need it later.
- Remove the old urine contaminated pad and discard it.
- Remove all dust and debris from the contaminated subfloor to be treated.
- Liberally apply Odor Barrier to the sub floor, gully area and the tackless strip.
- Be sure to cover evenly at about 2 ounces per square foot.
- Cover sealed floor with 2 mil plastic sheeting.
- Mix OSR with hot water 1 gallon HOT (110 to 120 degrees) water. If you use higher temperature water, it will make the OSR-XG more reactive and a large amount of foam may be produced. NO DETERGENT!
- Add 1 cup (6.5 ounces) of OSR to 1 gallon of hot water. That’s one full 112 oz. Container into 20 gallons of water.
- Mix until dissolved.
- Pour about 1 gallon of the HOT OSR solution per 4 - 5 square feet of contaminated carpet and squeegee the solution around to saturate all the fibers.
- Allow at least 30 minutes dwell time.
- Extract the solution from the carpet only - dry extract only (vacuum only with no solution) to leave the carpet as dry as possible. Carpet may be stiff once it dries - customer can simply vacuum up the next day.
- Check carpet for urine odor and repeat if needed.
- Pull back the treated carpet (do not remove the plastic sheeting).
- Install the new pad you earlier prepared over the sheeting.
- Trim away the excess plastic that it overlays the original carpet cushion. Tape the new pad into place.
- Reinstall and stretch into place the carpet. Take care when using the knee kicker—carpet backing is weaker when it’s wet.
- Trim the sheeting along the wall, taking care not to cut into the dry-wall or the baseboards.
- Allow carpet to dry (at least 24 hours).
- NOTE: For light to moderate pet urine contamination, only 1 application is needed. For heavy to extreme situations, 2 applications are recommended.
- Do not use on natural fibers, such as sisal, wool or silk.
- Dispose of unused solution - solution loses its strength 15 minutes after mixing.
- Do not place solution in closed container as pressure from released oxygen may cause the container to leak or burst.
- Not compatible with products containing reducing bleaches, such as Natural Fiber Cleaner, Red 1 and Red Relief.
SUB-SURFACE EXTRACTION TECHNIQUE:

If you do not want to pull carpet and are confident that the sub floor is NOT heavily contaminated, you can use the Water Claw® Sub-Surface Spot Lifter in conjunction with OSR to remove the pet urine from the carpet and the pad.
Use caution on hardwood floors so as not to cause warping due to excess moisture for prolonged periods of time. If the sub-floor is easily damaged by moisture, you will choose Molecular Modifier or X-cide as the preferred treatment.
