How to Remove a Curry Stain from Carpet

Curry is a dispersed dye and is one of the most difficult stains you will encounter

Curry is considered a dispersed dye, like mustard, and is one of the most difficult stains you will encounter.

Of course, if someone has already tried to remove the stain without success, the stain may be permanently set or carpet dye damage may have occurred!

How to Remove Curry Stain from Solution-Dyed Carpet:

  1. Scrape off loose material.
  2. If on 100% olefin, apply undiluted chlorine bleach, agitate, allow to stand 15-20 minutes and extract.
  3. If on 100% solution-dyed nylon, use diluted chlorine bleach, agitate, allow to stand 15-20 minutes and extract.

How to Remove Curry Stain from Typical Household Nylon Carpet:

  1. If the curry is a powder on the carpet or rug, DO NOT get it wet at first.
  2. Vacuum up and scrape off loose material.
  3. Steam heat or the Stain Magic Energizer & Detection Light by Pro’s Choice is required with Stain Magic® Stain Remover for Organic and Natural Stains.
  4. Extraction clean the spot to remove all surface contamination.
  5. Blot the spot as dry as possible with a dry white clean towel.
  6. Mix equal parts of Solution A and Solution B of Stain Magic in a clean separate container. Mixed solution must be used within five minutes. Do not place mixed solution in a closed container.
  7. Apply the mixed solution to the stain liberally and evenly to wet all the stained fibers and agitate gently. Use a trigger sprayer or the Stain Magic Dual Chamber Sprayer.
  8. If using a steam iron:
    1. Prepare a damp towel and wring out until moderately damp and cover the stain with the damp towel.
    2. Apply steam heat to the towel for 1 - 3 minutes, using a steam iron filled with water and set at the lowest setting.
    3. DO NOT SET IRON DIRECTLY ON CARPET!
    4. Because of its low melting point, do not use an iron on olefin.
    5. Apply the iron directly over the towel covering the stain.
    6. Check the stain once 15 seconds and watch for carpet dye loss.
    7. When the stain disappears, discontinue heat and remove the iron and the towel.
    8. Be alert for fibers that are not colorfast - if you see color loss, discontinue the heat immediately!
  9. If using the Energizer Light:
    1. Saturate stain with the mixed Stain Magic solution.
    2. Cover stain with the Energizer Light.
    3. Allow the lamp to dwell for time required causing the stain to disappear. This time will vary from 30 minutes to 6 hours depending on severity of stain.
    4. Extraction rinse the treated area to remove any residue and dry thoroughly.
  10. If a heavy spill, use Stain Blotter Anti-Wicking Absorbent Powder to prevent wicking. The customer can vacuum up the Stain Blotter the next day.
