DIY Method for Removing Rubber Cement from Your Carpet or Rug:

  1. Scrape up residue.
  2. Blot with an Acetone-based nail polish remover.
  3. Blot with odorless mineral spirits or alcohol on a white towel.
  4. Do not pour solvent directly on the carpet or you will destroy the latex glue holding the primary and secondary backing together.
  5. Blot with a solution of 1 teaspoon maximum of liquid HAND dish washing detergent per cup of lukewarm water.
  6. Blot with lukewarm water with a white towel.
  7. Blot dry with a dry WHITE absorbent towel.
