Protective Film for Carpeting: Problems with Color Loss & Stickiness
The clear, self-adhering protective film used by painters and builders, especially in model homes, can create several problems. Sometimes, when the film is removed, the carpet under it has severely yellowed or even lost some color. Additionally, a sticky residue is often left which is extremely difficult to remove. The film is supposed to be removed within 30 days, but this practice is often not followed. Only paper should be used as a carpet protector following carpet installation. This allows the carpet to "breathe" and eliminates the possibility of BHT yellowing. The use of paper also avoids leaving a sticky residue.
Using Pro’s Choice Energy with your pre-spray or prespraying with Citrus APS helps remove the sticky residue, but the residue sometimes will not come off with anything.
Treating for BHT yellowing will usually take care of yellowing. Color loss will require spot dyeing.
